About Oliver Gorges

My name is Oliver Gorges and I'm a professional Triathlete from Luxemburg, born 04th of August 1998.

My history began in 2007, where I have been discovered at my local club in Grevenmacher, Luxembourg.

In 2008, I tried my first Triathlon in Luxembourg and finished on last place. However, this motivated me so much, that I continued to train.

Some years later, in 2014, I started at my first international race at the Youth Olympics Qualifier in Weert (NED). Sadly, I missed the qualification by one place. This was the beginning of my international career.

In 2015, as a Youth athlete, I managed to qualify for my first Junior European Championships in Geneva (SUI). I finished on 55th place and could take a lot of experience for the next races.

In 2016, I had some strong performances because my training was more structured. I integrated the Sportlycee, which helps you on starting a dual career. As a consequence, I finished on 24th place at the Europeans in Lisbon (POR) and qualified for my first World Championships. The highlight of the season was however my Silver medal at the Junior Aquathlon Championships. This was my first international medal!

2017 was an important year for me. On one side, I wanted to finish my Junior year as good as possible but on the other side, I had to collect my first ITU points in the World Ranking. Unluckily, I crashed at my last Europeans in Kitzbühel (AUT) while being in the first group on the bike. I had a broken scaphoid and had to rest for nearly 2 months. After this, I just finished at my last World Championships on the 36th place. The season was not over yet and I had the opportunity to start at my first World Cup in Tongyeong (KOR) The highlight was indeed my bronze medal at the ATU African Cup in Mauritius, which was also my first Olympic Distance race. In just three races, I managed to place myself in the Top 300 World Ranking which allowed me to join the Army in 2018.

2018 my season started bad, due to less training over 4 month during Army instruction. I was just so thankful to have this opportunity because my dream came true. I always wanted to do Triathlon as a full time athlete. My performances allowed me to join the Sport Section of the Army. In consequence, I became also part of the Olympic squad. I managed to climb on to the 218th place in World Ranking.
